Grass Courts

Postby Snake Doctor » 10 Jul 2023, 10:59

After playing Queens and now Wimbledon in my first season proper on TE4, I'm loving how quick the grass plays, but it seems to be playing as quick as early 2000's Wimbledon. Wimbledon changed to ryegrass 10 or so years ago and it had a noticeable impact on the speed of the surface. The ball also bounces higher than normal on ryegrass, especially into the second week of the Championships, when the court is played in. It's certainly not Roland Garros levels of bounce, but to me (and comparing it to the current ongoing Championships) the ball dies a lot more in the game on ordinary topspin shots than it does in real life with slice shots.

Does anyone else think this?

Not complaining, mind. There are so many tennis games that feel the same surface to surface. I love that in Tennis Elbow you actually have to adjust, like professional tennis players, to the significant change clay court to grass court season. It's why the Roland Garros and Wimbledon double is so hard to achieve.

Hello,

yes, indeed I let the grass be very close to the 2000 one. After checking the change has been made for 2001 : https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/atoz/grass_courts.html , but they claim it didn't change the court speed.

The game doesn't simulate the change of bounce during the tournament, so the grass is always fresh, even if it doesn't look like it.

Several people already told me they felt the grass was quite fast.

And yes, I think as well that gameplay-wise, it's most interesting to have significantly more different surfaces.
