In world tour, player has racket facing differently

Postby megadam » 13 Jun 2019, 23:33

Hey Manutoo,

Found another bug which is really quite annoying. I've found that my player for whatever reason the racket keeps changing position in his hand and as a result sometimes I've found both the forehand animation and the backhand animation to be really off. As well I find that that actually slice with the racket facing downwards. I wouldn't raise this if it wasn't actually affecting the game, but it absolutely seems to be that when the racket is out of position or looking really off it affects the aim of the ball completely.

Worst case that I can produce this on is being a lefty with a Murray animation back hand, the frame of the racket is completely crossed rather than the strings being flat and visible when going to hit the shot. It seems ok in training club but with my world tour character it seems completely off. I'll try and see if I can capture screenshots.

To expand on this a little bit, there seems to be something really off with how rackets are rendered in World Tour matches and Practice club matches.

In practice club matches using the same Outfit Code and same stats as my player in World Tour, the player plays fine, nothing wrong with the animation or aim. Can hit slices, mid court balls easily and stuff. All fine

World Tour there seems to be a distinct difference in being able to do so. It seems as if the racket is being rendered in 2D rather than 3D like in Practice Club. It's really noticeable on some animations of serve where rather than seeing the frame of the racket as the racket turns, it's in some animations just a line! Same animation but there seems to be a distinction between the 2 modes.

Hello,

could you take one screenshot (Printscreen key, then you'll find it from Settings -> Profile -> Show Data Folder) in the Training and one in World Tour, outlining the differences ?

I'll see if I can take a video. Problem of capturing a screenshot during play is just that, trying to play and capture what is happening. I do have some examples where the racket placement in the hand is very off that I can upload later.

Btw, there's still stuttering and fps drops after and during service motion as well unfortunately. Even though I have a GTX1080, I've tried dropping the settings but it keeps happening :(

You can do a screenshot during a replay (which was crashing but was fixed in yesterday's build).
I'd just like to see what you mean about the racket looking different.

For the hand misplacement, I'd need some steps to reproduce the issue.

for the slowdown, try to turn off the Recordings (in the Recording menu) ; if it doesn't help, it may mean you have something else eating your CPU from time to time ; you should check with Process Explorer to be sure it's not the case.

Actually, the slowdown during serve was likely still about the crowd : I didn't realize the crowd was stopping to applaud during our service when they applaud cheerfully.

Anyway, maybe it's fixed in today's build, as I optimized some more the applauding transitions. Let me know if you notice any change or not..! :)

Apologies for not getting back about this.

To confirm, there's no stutter anymore or slowdown which is fantastic :)

I'll upload a screenshot or two to show what I mean about the rackets facing differently. It looks like the racket is rotating oddly in the players hand and is never resetting position making animations look broken and like the player is scooping the ball with the racket.

It looks like what the SubBuild 2019.6.22 has fixed.
Did you do these screenshots with a more recent version ?

Humm, that's strange indeed.
If you notice it happens during a match, send me a Bug Report by pressing Scroll Lock. (don't forget to turn on the Recordings in the Recordings menu before, if it's not already on)
I'll check if I can reproduce the issue on my PC or not.

Ouch, that was a nasty bug from the Unity engine (or an atrocious way to implement their animation system)...

It'll be fixed in the next update, thanks to your report !

I guess it happens only with a few anims, that's why I hadn't seen it ; there, it was the Forehand #27 triggering the bug... :fear:

Ooooh really? I saw this happening on mainly backhands (Djokovic and Murray's animation) and slices (Federers and Murrays)! Glad to hear the bug report helped :D
