Is 40-50 normal ? I tried first game online (no problem offline) and it was very laggy at that ping. I am wondering if I should try to change some settings or maybe it's a computer problem ? any advise or opinion is welcome

it's not normal except if you have CPU from 2000 and play with a 400ms delay.

Did you install a Mod ?

What is your CPU ?

Check your Windows didn't go in save energy mode. (ie: set Power Mode to Balanced or Performance)

installed mod 1.2 itst

computer from 2011, 6gb ram, ssd hard drive, i3 2.4 ghz - nothing fancy here
delay was 40-50ms sometimes it went smooth, other times laggy. 100+ was laggy.

I think i made the tour of alll the windows energy settings.

Could you turn on the Fps counter (in Misc Options) ? How much Fps do you have during the online matches ?
Do you often see the Turtle icon on the top left ?

sorry I thought I posted that initially. yes, I had FPS on (after googling and seeing you suggesting it). It was always around 60 if I remember correctly.

Turtle is very often there. Also the other icon beside the turtle that shows up often.

if a turtle appears on the top left of the screen : it means the game is waiting for a packet from the remote PC, and possibly, this packet has been lost
if a wire with a red cross appears : it means that one or more packets have been lost

I see those two often ! like on most shots.

Ok, so it's not an issue with the performances of the game or your PC, but more likely because of your network connection. If you play with wifi, try to use a line instead. And turn off anything on your PC that may download stuff in the background.

Even if the ping is good ? Or what is considered good? I will try to close everything when I start playing.

Under 200ms is a good ping, under 100ms is a very good ping, and under 50ms is an excellent ping.
But more important than the average value is the stability. If you have a ping of 50ms most of the time, but with a peak to 200ms once or twice per second, the game will get jerky. I guess it's what happens to you, but I'm not sure as it's not easy to know what's going on without being on the PC.

I tried wired and it worked well ! Except that for hosting I have to open port 4321...which I tried and have not been successful so far !
