[XKT 2.0] 3D Night Session Courts WAY too bright

Postby HotWingsFTW » 03 Feb 2023, 02:22

Hi,

Apparently a recent TE4 update broke some of the 3D night session courts from the XKT 2.0 mod by making them WAY too bright in the middle of the court, which makes it very difficult to play on them. How do I fix this glare on the 3D court? At the very least, is there a way to revert the night session change from the recent update (Jan 28, 2023) to what it was before? It seems that change is conflicting with the night session courts from XKT.

Hello,

there was no night session before the v0.79. Just select Default time or any time of your choice.

To fix that issue in the Mod, all the SurfaceMaterials' ini should contain this (or a value close to it), so you won't get too much sun or spotlight reflections :
Code: Select all
[Values]
_Glossiness=   0.2   // From 0 to 1 ; Tune reflections ; ie: the smoothness of the surface

It's stated as so here topic60-34019.php , but the Modders forgot to do it on some of the .ini's.

I guess the XKT Patch will be updated soon enough to fix that issue... :yes:

Hey Manu,

So one thing I noticed with this solution is that turning down the glossiness does work for getting rid of that really bright "shiny" look, but it also seems to make the ball shadows and ball marks much harder to see, if not completely invisible. Is that supposed to happen? I'm not sure what the relationship is between the glossiness setting and the shadows. Do you know why a 3D court would be missing ball shadows?

EDIT: It's inconsistent right now as I'm having the issue with the Indian Wells daytime court, but for the Indian Wells night time court, this issue is fixed if I raise the glossiness slightly. I will post a video of daytime IW gameplay as an example. There are NO ball shadows and NO ball marks.

EDIT 2: Here's the video

It's just a matter of contrast : the darker the court gets, the less noticeable the ball shadow is.

I tuned it a tiny bit for the next update, but it gets quickly too visible on the brighter surfaces so it's not possible to make it too dark either.

Well that's the funny thing...the shadows actually show up just fine during the night sessions lol (after I readjusted the glossiness to 0.4). It's the day session I'm having an issue with. Maybe this is an Indian Wells-specific issue though. I'll be on the lookout for if it happens on any other courts.
